City Strokes began in 2016 as a passion project of an architect and an artist who shared a love for urban environments. Combining their skills, they created a program to teach people how to document the energy and beauty of cities through sketching.
The first workshops took place in Singapore, using the city’s vibrant mix of modern and historical architecture as a living classroom. Early students found joy in sketching iconic landmarks, bustling streets, and serene parks, and word quickly spread about the transformative experience of seeing a city through an artist’s eyes.
By 2018, City Strokes had expanded to include online classes, reaching a global audience eager to learn the techniques of urban sketching. We introduced modules on perspective, light and shadow, and the use of mixed media, allowing students to enhance their skills and create dynamic artwork.
Today, City Strokes is a thriving community of urban sketchers, offering both in-person and virtual classes. Our mission is to inspire artists of all levels to connect with the world around them, one sketch at a time.
